Artesania Latina Scottish Maid 1/50 -Classic Collection
HISTORY OF SCOTTISH MAID SCHOONER: A TRADING SHIP MODEL
Discover the Scottish Maid schooner, wooden model of this beautiful ship whose purpose was to compete with the steamships on the trading race between Abredeen and London.
Built in 1839 by Alexander Hall and Company, the design of the Scottish Maid was influenced by the regulation of the era concerning taxes and fees for its measures and displacement. The result was a slender helmet and sharp bow, which together with a large surface of the canopy allowed a faster navigation even with heavy loads.
The Scottish Maid regularly spent about 49 hours on the journey between Aberdeen and London, and its design was widely reproduced.
